Colony
Colony started as an idle-game idea and turned into a real-time dwarf colony sim. You mark out digging and building jobs, make provisions, and keep everyone fed.
Colony started as an idle-game idea and turned into a real-time dwarf colony sim. You mark out digging and building jobs, make provisions, and keep everyone fed. Then night comes and zombies and skeletons start showing up near the colony.
The map is a procedural 2D voxel world with water and veins of ore to dig for. Dwarves pick up jobs themselves, find a route to the work, and fight monsters nearby. Food is also what you spend to hire more dwarves, up to ten, so there’s another reason to keep it coming in.
You can open a shared room, see the other players’ cursors and chat while you’re there. Saves stay in the browser.
I packed it into a single HTML file. Canvas 2D draws the world, Web Audio makes the sound effects, and PeerJS with WebRTC handles the shared rooms. The dwarves use A* to find their way around, with a custom binary min-heap for the pathfinding.
